7 Environmental Solutions That Congress Must Pass With The Infrastructure Plan
As lawmakers deliberate, Green Globalist is working with other environmental groups make sure these critical investments in climate and environmental justice don’t get left out — and we need your help.
Zero-emissions transportation. By transitioning to a clean transportation system, we can tackle the largest source of climate pollution in the U.S. and improve air quality for communities. Congress should electrify the federal fleet and make significant investments in electric vehicles, ports, rail systems, and charging infrastructure. They should also be investing in safe paths for bikers and electric scooters.
A 100% clean energy grid. By switching from fossil fuels to clean energy sources, we can build a more sustainable and resilient electricity system and create jobs. Congress must invest in a modern and efficient grid and set a standard requiring utilities to transition to 100% clean energy.
Pollution-free homes and buildings. By modernizing and electrifying buildings, we can improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon pollution, and improve indoor air quality. Congress should put people to work retrofitting public buildings and provide incentives for energy efficient and all-electric homes.
Clean drinking water. By upgrading our water infrastructure, we can make sure every community has access to safe drinking water. Congress must modernize drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater systems and replace every lead service line in the country.
Pollution cleanup. By holding polluters accountable, we can make sure taxpayers aren’t left to clean up their mess. Congress should eliminate handouts to the fossil fuel industry, require polluters to fund the cleanup of toxic sites, and put people to work restoring abandoned wells and mines.
Justice for disadvantaged communities. By investing in the low-income communities and communities of color most harmed by pollution and the climate crisis, we can lay the foundation for a more just and equitable future. Congress must fulfill President Biden’s commitment to target 40% of the benefits of climate investments to these communities.
Land and water conservation. By restoring degraded ecosystems, we can protect wildlife, improve air and water quality, and create jobs. Congress must invest in our natural infrastructure and conserve our lands and oceans.
